A sorrowful tangled heart
In a drifting masquerade
Can turn anyone into a pierrot
Shaken by lies, I’ll laugh through my tears

Hiding beneath a mask
Singing in fear
Is a pierrot who lost his shadow
Staggering around, I’ll perform clownish antics

Ride on tobacco smoke passing by
Dancing with shadows growing distant
Flower bouquets passing by
While clinging to memories growing distant

In the shattered mirror
I search for a familiar face
Drowning in my depths
Digest¹ the naked heart I’ve hidden

Into an empty bottle
Stuff in your sighs
And throw it out the window
Try picking apart your thoughts that have begun to tangle

Cries with smiles passing by
Tearful laughs growing distant
While clinging to yesterday which has passed by
And tomorrow which grows distant

Notes:

¹ I used “digest” as a translation for かみしめろ (kamishimero) because the word has a couple of definitions. One being the more literal “bite/chew on something”, while the other being “to think about/meditate on something”. In my opinion, “digest” fulfills both nuances to a certain extent.
